Basal Changes

For the past week or so my blood sugars have been higher then normal, today I finally had enough and decided to tweak my basal rates.  My blood sugars have been to high after breakfast and after dinner.  I have always had trouble staying in my normal range after breakfast but this past week my blood sugars were going in to the 250 range which is unacceptable.  The same was happening after dinner which was very surprising,  I have been eating my dinner around 5pm because of basketball practice, but I would be around 240 at 7pm which again is unacceptable.

Changing your basal rates without contacting your endocrinologist is not the best idea and I do not encourage doing so.  Over the past couple years my endocrinologist has given me the freedom to tweak my rates.  I have been able to gain his trust by emailing him the changes I planned on making and him approving and saying that he agrees with the changes I was about to make.  After a few emails he said that I will have the freedom to change my rates when I feel it is necessary.  My new basal rates are as follows, 12am-3am .65 3am-630am .70 630am-1030am .85 1030am-430pm .70 430pm-730pm 1.00 730pm-12am .65.  Which is 17.90 units per twenty-four hours.  For the next week I will be testing more and watching my blood sugars very closely.  If my blood sugars are to high or low for three days I will then go back and tweak things until I'm where I should be blood sugar wise.  I'm a little bit upset that I have had high blood sugars this past week but the video below has lifted my spirits and has let me know that it is not always an easy fight but if you keep
