Bad Day

After such a great day yesterday I was dealt a horrible day today.  As you can see from the picture to the left my blood sugar wanted to be mean today.  It didn't help the Dexcom was off for a little bit this morning.  Around 7am I was at 65 and took four units of insulin to cover a couple eggs and some raisin toast.  I also took a little extra insulin to cover the apple juice and granola bar I used to raise my blood sugar.  Around 8am my Dexcom started to beep letting me know my blood sugar was rising very quickly, so quickly that I didn't believe it, Dexcom read 398 actual blood sugar was 254.  I decided to take another two units and put off the gym until later.

Just before lunch I tested and was at 151 with the Dexcom reading 229.  I made my lunch and hoped to get to the gym around 2pm after doing some work around the house.  Again my blood sugar shot back up to 250 which would mean more insulin and no trip to the gym.  By this time I had enough and was pissed that my blood sugar was still above 225, I took another four units of insulin hoping that would fix everything.  As you can see things have returned to normal this evening, I have been hovering around 75 for a couple of hours.

Before a busy training/race weekend the last thing I wanted was to have crazy blood sugars.  Tomorrow brings with it a 3 mile training run around 9 followed by a thirty mile bike ride.  I also have a 5k race in North Kingstown on Sunday morning.  With such crazy numbers today I'm a little nervous about tomorrows training and how my blood sugar will be.  No matter what I will be running and riding tomorrow, I have a new Novo Nordisk kit I need to break in!!!  The best part about tomorrow is that a good day blood sugar wise will give me the confidence to race well on Sunday.  If all goes according to plan I believe a top 100 finish in the 5k is a good possibility.
