The best part of the day has been my blood sugar, the race began at 11am which should be the time that I start the marathon. I wanted to be in that perfect range an hour before the race, I was almost to perfect at 10am, I had a blood sugar of 93. I decided to eat a granola bar and have some apple juice to try and get my blood sugar a bit higher before the race began. As I stretched and did my warmup mile my blood sugar started to slowly creep up to 140, I felt great and wasn't worried about my blood sugar I could focus solely on my run.
Not knowing the course hurt me a little bit today, I knew it was a little hilly but not much more than that. A little hilly turned in to a bit hilly for this area. The good news was I felt amazing going up the hills, going down was a little tough however. I have learned how to run up hill very quickly but I look like this when running down hill. The worst part was the man I was pacing myself off of was struggling going up hill but passing me going down. The rest of the race went very smoothly, my knee was sore but not so much that I'm worried about it for the marathon, I had a very strong kick at the finish and finished in 16th place with a time of 22:56.
Post race my blood sugar has stayed around 145 and I feel great. This last training race went almost to perfect, I feel great and I'm ready for the marathon. In two weeks I want to say I don't care about how I run as long as my blood sugar is good but that'd be a lye. I can only hope to have great blood sugars like I did today.
