As we went over my charts and all of my blood sugar readings I was introduced to a new way of thinking. My old thought was to worry about the average blood sugar level, if you look at it that way what I have been doing works great. The doctor I saw yesterday was happy with what I have been doing but wants things to change. If you look at my blood sugar reading chart below you will see that it is all over the place. The average may be good but those high blood sugars need to be eliminated. Basically I need to stop having blood sugars over 200, they are happening to often and in turn that is causing the low blood sugars. The goal now is to tweak carb ratio as well as my basal rates to try and make this happen. I will be starting slowly, everything will not change overnight, I will start by working on my pre and post breakfast blood sugars. Once that is solved we will move on to lunch and then dinner.
This afternoon I received two emails from the doctor, the first told me about my blood work results, which were all good. The second email described the changes he wanted to make and that I can email him whenever I have a question or concern. Those two emails made me feel great and told me that I had made the right decision in going to UMASS. I love the 24/7 care and I love that they are challenging me diabetes wise.
