Being on the bike and cruising thru the fog was just what I needed. I have missed the 6am bike rides, I missed not having a care for thirty minutes and just pedaling and enjoying the morning. Arriving at work with a blood sugar of 96 made the ten mile ride that much better.
The afternoon ride would be a little more of a challenge. At 2:30 I had a blood sugar of 82, this was after 1.4 units of insulin at lunch and setting a 9% temp basal at 12PM. A peanut butter sandwich would raise my blood sugar to 143 as I prepared for my bike ride home. The best part about riding home is that I have no easy way of getting home, no matter which way I go it will be almost a ten mile ride. Today I felt great, I chose to do the medium difficulty ride home. A nice 16 mile ride that is very scenic but also a good challenge. My blood sugar was never an issue on the ride home, I would be at 196 when finished.
I'm looking forward to riding my bike to work more often as Leanne and I get settled in our home. I will miss running to work but as I get further in my marathon training I have a feeling I may try to run the ten miles to work. It may sound crazy to run and then work on top of it but as Jim Valvano said "
