Just three short months ago I was very nervous about going from an insulin pump to injections. On thanksgiving morning that decision proved to be the right one as I decided to run a 5k at the drop of a hat. Something that I found almost impossible when I was using an insulin pump. Thursday my blood sugar was in range and I didn't have any insulin on board so it was the perfect storm to run a 5k. Besides being able to run a 5k at the drop of a hat I learned that I've learned how to roll with changing meal times. This allowed me to enjoy the weekend and not be so strict about the time I ate. That means I could sleep in, go to a broadway show or visit Times Square and not have to worry about having to eat a meal. As always I made sure I had my meter, a snack and insulin with me just in case my blood sugar happened to go out of range.
My blood sugar wasn't always perfect and by no means do I want it to make it sound like it was. I just feel that I had a lot more freedom and have had that for the past few months which has been great. This freedom has allowed me to be a better and more positive person. I can't describe the confidence that I have as person or as an athlete. It has me very excited about the last month of 2016 and the possibilities for 2017.
