On Saturday morning I will be running my fifth half marathon of the 2015 season.  It will be my first of many trail races however and I don't know what to expect.  I know that when the race starts it will be a balmy 55 degrees with a gentle breeze and I know that the trail is generally flat.  I have a feeling as I toe the line that I will be very nervous and anxious, I have been feeling great for the past month and I'm ready to see how I can compete at the trail running level.

For the first time since running the NYC Marathon I will be very nervous about my blood sugars before, during, and after the race.  I have run almost two dozen half marathons but for some reason I believe Saturday will be different.  My only reason for thinking that way is because I will be running on a trail, I don't care how flat it is it is not the same as running a road race.  I have been training on trails for almost two months and I feel confident as a runner but I know that I work harder on a trail run.  Knowing that I will be sure to have a cliff bar, extra GU, and Gatorade with me while I run, not only will that keep me fueled up while running it should and will keep my blood sugar in range.

On Saturday all I can do is run and enjoy each and every mile, enjoy being on a beautiful trail out in the woods of Connecticut.  I will have all of the supplies that I need, my meter in my fanny pack, and food in my pockets.  As long as my blood sugar is in range when the gun goes off everything will be great!!  Once that happens I will not be worried about my temp basal rate, if my blood sugar goes above my set range then I will make changes for the next race.  I will not allow myself to go below my set range.  I'm running well and I'm looking for a top twenty finish on Saturday!!
