Easy Days are Tough

Waking up around 7 and seeing rain falling got my day off to a bad start.  I had planned to go for a nice bike ride.  Instead seeing rain changed my day completely and it probably was a good thing.  I should I have known I was a little high when I woke and didn't have a song in my head.  For some reason when my blood sugar is below 200 I have some odd songs in my head when I awake.  Today however I awoke and was 213, I had a rough night, my blood sugar never dropped below 160 and I gave myself a couple units throughout the night.  But hey thats all in the past and I cant change it I just have to deal with the 213 and go on with my day.  I started today with a bowl of Kashi cereal and gave myself 5.7 units.  I knew today I wouldn't be to active so the extra insulin wouldn't cause any problems.  As the morning went on I continued to sit on my butt, I worked on my site a bit and watched some Premiere League soccer.  Before I knew it it was 11am and I had to get ready for basketball practice.  As I tested my sugar my pump beeped alerting me that my sensor had run out.  I was 123, I punched in my 2.9units and started looking for lunch.  I threw some leftover Chicken fingers in the microwave, poured myself some almond milk, grabbed some peanut butter crackers and went off to enjoy my lunch.

Practice was from 12-2 and without my sensor hooked up I was able to take off my pump and scrimmage with my team.  Not a great deal of activity but just enough to break a sweat.  As I left practice that cycling instinct kicked in and said its starting to clear get on the bike!!!  Driving home I talked myself out of it though, shooting at practice was ugly, my legs were spent, everything was coming up short and I needed a day off to rest up.  Without the sensor I was a little lost, I felt low but was dehydrated I was 151 at 2:21pm and 228 at 3:41.  I had a snack at 2:30 when I got home and covered it but not well enough.  I also took 2.5 units at 3:41 to get myself back to the

After watching way to much college basketball I cleaned up and got ready to eat the amazing dinner my wife had prepared.  It was a rigatoni with ground turkey and vegetables.  With some gluten free cookies for dessert.  I tested at 6:10pm to calibrate my sensor and I was 91.  I cant explain how happy it makes me when I start a new sensor with a great blood sugar.  It just makes everything better.  I gave myself 3 units and enjoyed my dinner, I would give myself 2 units an hour later.

It's 9:15 as I write this and I'm getting ready for bed.  I was just 57 I guess I didn't eat as much pasta as I thought.  A little apple juice and peanut butter crackers and I'll be good to go.  (Dont worry I will test again before heading to bed)   You may be wondering whats wrong with this guy!! It's New Years eve!!!  New Years to me is just another day, I hate big crowds and I don't drink so why would I keep myself up till midnight.  I'm odd, I'd rather be asleep by 10:30 and awake at 630 the next morning  so I can go to church at 8am, ride my bike and then watch football.  I've learned over time that if you do what makes you happy and don't worry about what others think in the end you'll be very happy!!  Good night and enjoy the final hours of 2011!!!

Day One

Everyday I will be entering my blood sugars, what I ate for meals, workouts and random happenings throughout my day.

7:25am-Was able to sleep in today, woke up well rested and felt good going in to my breakfast routine.  My blood sugar was 125, I had a bowl of Kashi cereal and gave myself 4 units of insulin.  Knowing I was going to the gym at 9, I was a little bit worried about the amount of insulin, but over the past week I have found that the Kashi cereal has a lot more carbs than normal cereals.  Around 830 as I got ready to leave for the gym my blood sugar was at 220 but starting to fall a little.  I set a temporary basal that cut down the amount of insulin going in to my body and from 9-10 put my body thru a pretty tough workout.

At the gym it was mostly a weights day but I did end with some cardio.  Began my workout with 3 sets of front squats with 130lbs followed by 3 sets of 5 pull ups.  Then it was on to 3 sets of lunges with 20lb weights and seated rows starting at 110lbs and ending at 130lbs.  Finished with a little bit of cardio, 45lb plate pushes.  Leaving the gym I cancelled my temp basal and had a protein bar and a lot of water.  Knowing that I had very little insulin for the past hour I gave myself two units to cover the protein bar and to get some extra insulin in to my body.

From 11-1 I had basketball practice for the freshman team that I coach.  I really don't like to sit and watch the kids run so often times I will join them in drills.  Did almost two miles of running, drank a Powerade and had a fiber one bar to keep my sugar in line.

My lunch was late but my blood sugar was 90 at 1:20pm, I made my usual turkey and american one fiber one wheat bread had some almonds to go with it and ended with some Greek yogurt for dessert.  I took 3.2 units to cover my lunch.  Had a nice quiet afternoon and then went to dinner with my parents and wife at a nice local Italian restaurant.  Over time I have gotten a lot better at covering pasta.  A lot of time it's tough to get the timing down causing my blood sugar to spike a few hours after dinner.  Tonight was a good night though, I had some pasta and grilled chicken and took 2.5 units before eating and another 3.0 units one hour later.  Around 11 I tested before heading to bed and was 164.  I took 1.2 units and called it a night.  All in all I was very satisfied with the day and how my sugars were.  I wish everyday could be like this but I think it would get old after a while.
