As my appointment I was thinking about how I have trouble seeing the bottom line on ESPN when I lay in bed, I quickly told the doctor and with that the exam began. I really have nothing to say about the eye exam, everything went great and my vision is still a perfect 20/20 in both eyes. The fun started when i was given the drops to dilate my eyes so he could perform the retinopathy exam. The numbing drops I was given first felt great, I don't know why but I like a little bit of pain. I was then given the dilation drops, that was when the fun started. For ten minutes I sat nervously before he performed the exam, during the exam all wen well, the damn light shining in my eye sucked however.
As he backed away he stated "Your eyes look good, you have two small hemorrhages in your right eye. Honestly it is nothing to be concerned about, a person without diabetes could have the same thing. Just make sure you see me every year and be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses at work, also keep good control of your blood sugar." I was happy to hear that I had no major problems but had a feeling that ten years of not caring about my diabetes is starting to effect my eyes. All I can do is keep up the tight control and hope for the best. I will be sure to see the eye doctor every year, no more of this five year gap between visits!!
