It's gotta be the shoes!!  When I was a little kid I never thought that I would be quoting a commercial from 1989, but when it comes to running, it's gotta be the shoes.  For the past three years I have been getting a pair of running shoes from my parents for Christmas, I would give them a couple pairs that I liked and they'd pick one.  This year it was a little different, spending Thanksgiving weekend in NYC I decided to contact a good friend to ask where he went in the city to buy his shoes.  His suggestion was Brooklyn Running Co., as my girlfriend and I headed to the store I was a little nervous, this was a store suggested by a professional runner, I'm no where near that level.  As I walked in I was greeted by the staff and offered a donut, I figured this was how they figured out who was serious about running and who wasn't.

I sat down with an employee and explained how many miles I ran and how I was looking to compete in more ultra races in 2017.  He then had me walk down the length of the store and back so that he could see how my foot landed and my posture.  He then brought me over to the wall of shoes and grabbed a very odd looking shoe.  He explained how the shoe would help me as a runner and would actually improve my horrible foot strike.  I thought these guys know what they're talking about but I have no idea what an Altra shoe is!!  I'm use to the big names of Nike, Adidas and New Balance.  Then I put on the Altra shoes and my feet had never been happier!!  As I did a quick five minute run on the treadmill I knew these were the shoes for me!!

Today I took my Altra Torin 2.0s for their first run and I can honestly say I have never had a pair of shoes like this.  From the lightness to the fit everything was perfect.  The only complaint I have is that my legs are a little sore, was it from the shoes? the distance? the cold air? Nope, none of that, it was from running with proper form and using my feet the right way while running.  The shoes really teach you how to run correctly.  It is suggested by Altra to ease into their shoes so a short three mile run was all that I wanted to do, in that three miles I ran like I haven't run in a long long time.  I felt great and it has me excited for the upcoming season.  It also got my mind off of the endocrinologist appointment that I have in an hour.  Look for me in a pair of Altra running shoes for a long long time!!
