As I headed up to Boston for the game yesterday afternoon I knew that keeping my blood sugar under 200 would be like the Red Sox trying to get a hit in game one. Before heading to the game Leannes parents, Leanne and myself met her brother just outside of Boston for an early dinner at 4:30. I took it easy at dinner ordering a veggie burger and making sure to take my insulin just after we ordered. Heading in to the park around 7 everything was going great, my blood sugar was in the zone. All I wanted to eat during the game was a pretzel, that and a diet coke and I would be happy. The pretzel scared me but I took three units twenty minutes before going to get it and again I was lucky that my blood sugar didn't really move before or after eating the pretzel. Scoring the baseball game kept me from wanting to eat more, I was so focused on the game that I never thought about food. The game was amazing and probably the best game I have ever been to in my life no matter the sport.
Walking out of the park I felt a bit low and grabbed a Mountain Dew and a slice of pizza, I took two units when I ordered the pizza and hoped for the best. The mountain Dew would quickly raise my sugar and the pizza was nothing more than a way to celebrate the Red Sox victory. My CGM was a little off all night, it had me right around 70 all night but when I tested at 7:30 I was at 101. I believe I got a little lucky last night with my timing but again if you are responsible than I believe enjoying "bad foods" occasionally is not the worse thing in the world.
