A Week Later and I'm Still Learning

Nine days ago I was completing a 50k and was thinking the pain sucks but that was everything I thought it would be and more. I figured after a few days I'd be able to feel my legs again and walk like normal again. That happened but what I didn't expect was what the race would do to my blood sugars, the past week has been a roller coaster ride of blood sugars.

I have adjusted how much insulin I take with meals and my long acting. The race did a number on my muscles and my body is just now feeling normal. I will be returning to the bike and running starting on Wednesday morning, the problem is I don't know how my body will respond. Physically I will be ok, I believe enough time has passed and that my muscles will be ok. It might not be the fastest bike ride but it will be fun.

As always it will be very important that I have everything that I need to keep my blood sugar in range while riding. From Gatorade to cliff bars, but I also need to make sugar I have a fast acting glucose just in case I fall out of range. If I have learned anything this past week it is that I can do extreme events but that managing my blood sugar is the biggest event and the most important event.
